Gotland Sheep!

We recently added four Gotland ewes to our farm. We’re so excited to have them.

Welcome Bramble, Briar, Birch, and Betony.

So pleasantly delighted with the names they came with! (We already have a plant theme for our chickens and quail.)

They are nine month old ewes, around 90% Gotland from a US upbreeding program that imported semen from New Zealand, England, and Sweden. There are 10 base breeds that are accepted as foundations for this project. We know these sheep have some Blue Faced Leicester from their sire.

I’m currently learning to spin wool into yarn, starting with wool I’ve purchased from other Gotland farms.

So happy to welcome them to Blossomwood Farmstead!
