are you ready to start seeds?
What are those crazy things in the photo above…? Well, I’d love to tell you.
I’m a HUGE fan of starting seeds in soil blocks. You just buy these well-constructed metal soil blockers *once* and then you can use them year after year — with no need for plastic pots. It’s not only less wasteful, but it also is better for your starts since their roots are so minimally disturbed when you transplant.
Full disclosure: the links on this page help to support our farm through an affiliate program — with no added cost to you. I hope you find them helpful!
soil blockers
Here’s another, larger, version for starting things like squash.
… and some other really important things to get right when starting seeds
plant lights
I get asked about plant lights ALL the time. There isn’t much that’s more important than good light for seedlings. I love the ones above because you can easily convert any set of shelves into an awesome seed starting area. (Technology is amazing sometimes!) I actually like these lights so much I use them for my fancy houseplants all year long.
There are two other lights that I also love for more serious setups. You can find those here and here.
storage jars
These are the *cutest* little jars I’ve found to keep seeds in! I love using them to gift seeds to friends.
label maker
Trust me, you’re going to need to label all those cute little jars. I always think I’ll remember what seeds are… but when I don’t, it’s really, really hard to figure it out later. Learn from my mistakes and save yourself from this frustration!
